This is my rating system. It needs explaining because its a mess.
I review based how much I want to scream about the book, and also the (not really) more objective subjects of execution + writing.
5 stars | ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I almost never give 5 star reviews anymore.* These are the books that destroy me. That teach me something. These are the books that I reread, the ones I carry round in my pocket. 5 stars is pretty much god level.
*I wrote a post about it so click here if you want.
4.5 stars | ⭐⭐⭐⭐1/2
PERFECT. Just not my bible. I think my 4.5 stars might be most people’s 5 star but who knows? (definitely not me) Interpret as you wish.
4 stars | ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Almost perfect. Not sure what else to put here but it’ll look weird if I don’t write more and oh look I’ve written enough now.
3 stars | ⭐⭐⭐
Enjoyable, but not real special. This is where I put most rom-coms (no hate I swear, they’re just ALL THE SAME. love them though).
2 stars | ⭐⭐
Very very just okay. I feel like 2 stars is the equivalent of beige. These are typically the books I don’t have much to say about. Not painful, but not necessarily all that enjoyable either.

Not with a 5 foot pole. Thanks and bye. The likelihood of a 1 star review is low because I’d probably DNF it, at which point I don’t rate.

Not with a 10 foot pole thank you very much. I’ve never given anything a 0 star review. I feel like if something is worth 0 stars it shouldn’t have been published in the first place but people are weird (myself included) so maybe it’ll happen??? I hope not.
I refuse to rate DNFs. I always feel unqualified and it makes me sad. I do talk about them though (reasons for DNF, DNF location, etc. etc.)
I also do half stars, but THAT’S TOO MUCH TO WRITE OK. I think people are smart enough to sort it out.
